Clinical Supervision
Do You Want to Improve the Quality of Your Therapeutic Services or Build A Professional Support Network?
Virtually all therapists, whether new graduates or seasoned professionals, encounter several professional challenges. If you're navigating complex client cases, dealing with burnout, or facing ethical dilemmas, having a source for guidance can be crucial. Clinical supervision can offer you the support you need to ensure you are providing the best quality care for your clients while also managing your professional growth and well-being.
As an AAMFT Approved Supervisor, I have provided both individual and group clinical supervision services to trainees in graduate programs and associates in mental health agencies. I have also served as a clinical consultant to licensed therapists in private practice. I would love to help you enhance your skills, provide insight into your work, and empower you to deepen your sense of accomplishment in your practice.
Clinical Supervision Is All About Enhancing Your Practice And Professional Well-being
Having a private practice can often be a solitary journey. Many mental health professionals find themselves making crucial decisions alone, and facing challenges without peer support or professional advice.
For individual clinical consultation, my approach is tailored to your needs and goals. Individual consultation is for those who seek in-depth or intensive guidance regarding a particular case or issue that I have experience with. For instance, I’ve consulted for licensed therapists on the following issues:
Case Consultation
Case conceptualization and treatment modalities, including EMDR treatment planning
Navigating complex trauma cases
Choosing interventions throughout therapy
Using a systemic lens (differentiation, triangles, isomorphism)
Use of evidence-based assessments in therapy
Evaluating legal and ethical concerns
Self-of-the Therapist
Identifying and working with countertransference
Self-of-therapist issues
Practicing self-care
Practicing healthy boundaries with self and clients
Professional Development/Coaching
Private practice support and consulting
Challenges with progress notes
Clarifying professional goals
All Therapists Need Peer Support
For group clinical consultation I moderate, small, private groups of individuals who commit to meeting at a specific time— usually once or twice a month—for a minimum of one year.
Group consultations are helpful if you’re a therapist seeking to receive ongoing, regular support from peers; gain multiple perspectives on challenging cases; experience growth as a therapist, and meet the ethical requirement “to improve and protect the health and welfare of the client.”
Engaging in group consultation serves as a structured environment for continuous learning, reflection, and growth within the therapeutic community. If you’re seeking group consultation I am in the process of putting together the following consultation groups:
Group 1: Therapists in Private Practice
Group 2: EMDR Treatment Planning and Troubleshooting
Based on my expertise in the fields of supervision and consultation and my deep sense of compassion for other therapists, I’m confident that I can help you work through your emotional challenges and improve your growth and development as a practitioner.
Perhaps You Have Some Questions About Clinical Supervision and Consultation…
Should I do individual or group consultations?
The decision between individual and group consultations depends on several factors including what you're seeking at this stage of your career. Do you prefer personalized attention and the opportunity to focus deeply on your specific issues or cases? Individual consultations may be ideal if you value one-on-one guidance and that is more in-depth.
On the other hand, group consultations provide a supportive environment where you can gain diverse perspectives from other therapists. Group consultations offer the benefit of collaborative problem-solving and building a professional network. If you thrive on shared insights and enjoy discussing cases with others, a group setting may be more suitable.
Why pay for clinical consultation when I can just speak with colleagues?
If you have ever had a bad supervision or consultation experience then you know the value of finding the right fit. I facilitate a safe, supportive, and collaborative environment. For group consultation, I have learned that a financial commitment changes the perspective of the consultee, such that they are more accountable to the process and other group members. The fee also covers the cost of my time for coordinating, moderating, and maintaining the integrity of the group when members need to leave or new members join. I have found that consistency in group membership and structure is key.
I see you offer personal therapy to therapists. Should I seek therapy or clinical consultation?
Consultation for self-of-the-therapist issues can overlap with the content of personal therapy; however, it is important to understand the differences between the two and gain clarity on the type of help you need. In general, consultation is a collaborative meeting between peer professionals who are engaged in a problem-solving process specific to the consultee’s clients or general work process. Consultation is necessary for sound practice. The ultimate goal of the consultation is to improve the professional well-being of the consultee and improve the quality of care for their clients.
Personal therapy can also improve your professional well-being, but the ultimate goal is to facilitate, increase, or maintain your psychological well-being. The process of therapy is more intra- and interpersonally-focused. My role is therapeutic, and the goal is to address your personal pattern of functioning: the resolution of any underlying issues that interfere with well-being, the facilitation of healthy emotional and behavioral expression, and the adoption of more adaptive patterns.
